Current Applications

Plotline 2

Plotline 2 is an app for the Mac, designed to help writers plan out the flow of the scenes for a novel, short story, screenplay, stage play, or TV show. It is based on the original iPad version, Plotline.

Outline, edit, and rearrange the scenes for your story, then export the synopsis in either text or opml format.

Plotline 2 is available from the Mac App Store.

Please note that Plotline 2 and Plotline use different file formats for their data, so cannot routinely share data files. You can however import a Plotline (iPad) project to Plotline 2, using the built-in OPML import feature.

Shelf Life for iPad

Shelf Life is the easy-to-use program for anyone that wants to manage information about books that they’re interested in. Shelf Life allows you to keep books in three different categories. The Wanted list holds details of books that you don’t yet have access to (e.g. if the book hasn't been released yet), while the Reading List holds details of the books you’ve got queued up to read, you either own them, or have them on loan from the library, it doesn’t matter. Finally, the Finished list books are those books that you’ve finished reading.

Use Shelf Life to keep track of forthcoming books and series titles by your favourite authors, or just to produce a list of books to hunt down on your next trip to the public library.

Shelf Life for iPad is available from the App Store.

Continuity

Continuity  is designed for writers and book editors, to help with the process of working through a novel manuscript and editing it.

Continuity works like a tabbed binder that allows you to enter details about a story in the following sections: Manuscript, Plotlines, Characters, Outfits, Props, Locations, and Notes.

The Manuscript section of Continuity is further broken down into the following subsections: Summary, Style Sheet, and Facts, with an additional Notes and Analysis section detailing Structure, Conflict, Pacing, Grammar, Setting, Point of View, Dialogue, Protagonist, Antagonist, and Timeline.

Continuity also includes a set of checklists that can be used and customised for each of the plotlines, characters, outfits, props, and locations entered. Checklists are sets of questions/challenges for you to consider and complete when assessing a story element. Each time you add a new plotline, character, outfit, prop, or location, the relevant checklist details are copied over, ready to be completed.

Use Continuity alongside your manuscript draft, and keep track of what the reader knows about your characters and situations, which is often far less than the information you have at your disposal as the writer. For example, as the designer of your heroine, you may know she has blonde hair and a fear of spiders, but what has the manuscript told the reader? Has your crucial piece of evidence for your murder-mystery been placed for the reader to find before the final showdown?

Continuity is available for the Mac, and can be found on the Mac App Store.
